Navaid

Navaid is a graphical Windows program that generates charts in NOAA Sectional Aeronautical Chart format. For newcomers, those are the fancy maps that pilots use to chart a course from one point to another.

During the design of scenery, Navaid is useful in checking to be sure that you've located your navaids at the correct places.

And of course, once you are ready to fly in your new scenery, you'll have a sectional chart, complete with airport diagrams detailing your runways along with locations and frequencies of the VORs and NDBs in your scenery files.

You can also use the program to create a flight plan, or hook it up to a second computer and use it to report your position, heading, ground speed and other details as you fly. (The author says this "GPS" feature at present does not work if you run FS on a Windows 95 system.)

Navaid is shareware. The demo version available for download is a fully working version, but is limited to the map of the USA and FS's default scenery.

Navaid comes with maps of the US, Hawaii, Caribbean, UK, Europe, and Japan. Other maps are available at no charge including Western, Central, and Eastern Canada, Alaska, Mexico, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, the Azores, Scandinavia, and Hong Kong.

The latest version (1.22) provides enhanced Airport Diagram detail, including taxiways, ramps, aprons, buildings, and terminals. The locations of navaids in the immediate vicinity of airports are also now shown on the Airport Diagrams. In addition, distance measurement units have been separated from elevation so that either can be in feet or meters, accommodating those areas of the world where both systems are used simultaneously. And certain FSASM objects, such as PCL (Pilot Controlled Lighting), T-VASIS and PAPI systems, are now recognised by the program.
